Tremors rock Kolkata as 5.6-magnitude earthquake strikes Bhutan
The Enforcement Directorate has summoned West Bengal ministers Sujit Bose and Rathin Ghosh for fresh questioning on May 6 in connection with the municipal recruitment corruption case, a day after the Assembly election results are scheduled to be declared. Officials have asked Sujit Bose to appear with documents related to his movable and immovable assets as part of the ongoing probe.
Sujit Bose, the state Fire Services Minister, had appeared at the agency’s office in Salt Lake on May 1 following a court directive, after previously skipping multiple summons citing election duties. During prolonged questioning, investigators gathered information that has now led to a fresh summons, with officials planning to scrutinise financial and property records in detail.
Rathin Ghosh, another state minister and candidate from Madhyamgram, has also been asked to appear on the same day. He too had been summoned earlier in the case and had sought time due to election commitments. The investigation has included searches at residences and questioning of individuals linked to both ministers as agencies attempt to trace the alleged irregularities in recruitment.
Officials believe that further questioning and examination of documents could provide crucial leads in the case. The timing of the summons, immediately after the declaration of election results, has drawn political attention, with the developments unfolding amid heightened political activity in the state.
